ABOUT

For God and Country

American Legion Lillington Post 28 is in District 13, Division 3 of the Department of North Carolina. It is one of the oldest Posts in North Carolina originally established by temporary charter in 1919 and receiving its permanent charter in 1925. This Post has stood the test of time even while having good times as well as hard times. Because there has always been members who have held this post near and dear to their heart Post 28 has stood fast through 99 years. We currently have 48 Paid Members for the 2018 with only a hand full of active members. We have not officially met our membership goal for the 2018 membership year. Our membership year is July 1st through June 30 of the follow calendar year.

We are structured like any other organization with officers however we have different names for them. The Commander is the highest position in the post and provides the overall leadership in the post. The other positions are 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, Adjutant, Financial Officer, Sergeant at Arms, Chaplin, and Service Officer. Each of the positions with the exception of the Adjutant is elected annually. The Adjutant is an appointed position and one of the most important because they are depended upon to manage the operations of the post. In many post the adjutant stays the same for multiple years to provide continuity of the post operations. Click here to see our current Post 28 Officers.

The American Legion has many different programs and services available to Veterans, their families and the community at large. The programs and services offered at each Post are decided upon and supported by the Post. Currently Post 28 has adopted highway 421 on the west side of Lillington. We sponsored four rising Seniors from Harnett Central High School to attend the Tar Heel Boy's State at Catawba College in June 2017. A big thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Lillington for helping Post 28 by providing scholarships for two of the young men. There has been some interest expressed by members to also sponsor an American Legion Baseball Team, the Oratorical Competitions, Boy Scouts, Legion Riders, Sons of the Legion, and Ladies Auxiliary  in Lillington. We are currently trying to reestablish our active membership base and bring some of these great programs to the Lillington Community and throughout Harnett County.

These programs cannot happen without Legionnaires willing to support them, so please come join us for a meeting and consider volunteering your time to the American Legion Lillington Post 28.
